This evening, Sam Baggenstos set a new official record with 21 chicken wings consumed.
But to back up, our plumbing backed up again last night. After several late-night trips to the Methodist Church next door, the city intervened yet again, fixing the problem by the next morning. The rest of the day was perhaps less historic, but a success none the less. The morning began with an unpleasant downpour, forcing all VBS activities inside once again. Despite the dreary conditions, attendance swelled to 18 children, six more than previously. God was generous and VBS went off without a hitch. Highlights were numerous, a reflection of the blessings bestowed upon us and some of the the many evidences of God's unfolding plan. One in particular involved Kaylen, who'd been given a Bible on Monday, talking to one of our students, Mercy, about the Gospel Story and praying to accept Jesus into her heart.
In the afternoon, the Crew undertook two service projects in the town. Most went to the Harrington Opera House, built in 1904 and currently undergoing renovation. We were assigned to clean the understage storage area which, judging from the newspapers we found, hadn't been cleaned since 1907. Dust lay inches thick on the ground, interspersed with chunks of wood, stone, and even hay. However, with valiant use of brooms and judiciously applied shop-vacs, we conquered the clutter, although coated in clouds of dust. The rest of the Crew finished the cleaning of the town's fire engines we'd begun yesterday.
We returned to the church around 4:30, and after some rehearsal and preparation we partook of Charlie's Famous Wings, with the seventeen students, leaders, and teens eating 127 of them. Youth outreach was also larger than yesterday, with 7 Harrington youth in attendance. After a rousing game of Noodle Hockey, Sarah and Ty shared their testimonies, and we took to the town for a game of Fugitive. At the end of the night, Family Time provided a time for sharing our encouragements. We chose three Crew members, as we do every night, and shared our thoughts and reflections about them as an encouragement and a way to build relationships among the team. Your prayers for us have been greatly appreciated, and we ask you to keep praying for attendance and continued success in VBS and Outreach, and for all the seeds we're watering.
